2022 marks the 15th anniversary of Grand Seiko’s first Spring Drive chronograph, and to celebrate this important milestone Grand Seiko presents SBGC247, a limited edition Spring Drive Chronograph GMT with a dial inspired by the wintery mountains of Shinshu.
Rendered in High-Intensity Titanium, the case measures 43.5mm in diameter and 16.1mm in thickness. It features an eye-catching combination of mirror-polished and hairline-finished surfaces, which is made possible due to the type of titanium alloy used here and Grand Seiko’s Zaratsu finishing method. High-Intensity Titanium is also notable for its lightweight quality (relative to steel) and its resistance against corrosion. A dual curve sapphire crystal sits on top of the dial. A sapphire crystal on the case back offers a view of the 9R96 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT movement within.
Caliber 9R96 offers an impressive accuracy of ±0.5 seconds per day, and, because of the distinct nature of Spring Drive, the chronograph function measures elapsed time to the exact moment and not just to the nearest fraction of a second, a feature made possible courtesy of the glide motion hand. The GMT feature also has jump-hour functionality and SBGC247 can two separate time zones.
SBGC247 is a limited edition of 700 watches.
