In 1967, Grand Seiko released the 44GS, a watch that embodied the Grand Seiko Style. Now, 55 years after its debut, SBGW289 is a new limited-edition, manual-winding watch that commemorates that significant historical model. The case measures 36.5mm in diameter and 11.6mm in thickness, and it features a smaller case that has all the unique characteristics that made the original and the modern 44GS such memorable and important designs.
The dial of SBGW289 evokes Sakura-kakushi, or “the hiding of the cherry blossom,” the moment in spring when the cherry blossoms peek through the snow under the sunshine of spring. It is a delicate pink with a silver tone and dynamic texture that plays beautifully with the light.
The movement is assembled by hand by the craftsmen and women of Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. Caliber 9S64 is a mechanical manual-winding caliber with a power reserve of 72 hours and an accuracy rating of -3 to +5 seconds per day.
SBGW289 is a limited edition of 1,200. The words “Limited Edition” and the individual serial number are engraved on the closed case back alongside the Grand Seiko lion.
